Nandgaon Temple, Mathura Holiday Tour PackagesNandgaon lies 8.5 km north of Barsana on the metalled road to Mathura (56 km). According to tradition, it was the home of Shri Krishna`s foster father, Nand.

On the top of the hill is the spacious temple of Nand Rai, built by the Hat ruler Roop Singh.

The other temples here are dedicated to Narsingha, Gopinath, Nritya Gopal, Girdhari, Nand Nandan, and Yasodha Nandan, which is located half way up the hill.

A little beyond is the Pan Sarovar, a large lake with masonry ghats along its sides. Legend has it , that this
was the place where Shri Krishna used to take his cows for water.

Not far away is the Kadamb grove called Udhoji- ka - Kyar. The spacious temple to Nand Rai built by the Jat Ruler Roop Singh is located on a hill.

Nandgaon is situated 10 kilometers from Barsana on the road towards Mathura. Typical of villages of Braj, Nandgaon too is connected to the legend of Lord Krishna. Nandgaon was the home of Nanda, the foster-father of Lord Krishna.

Infant Krishna was actually exchanged with the daughter of Nanda by Vasudeva, the blood father of Krishna, in order to save him from the imminent death from the hands of Kansa.

Nanda thought that his wife Yashoda has given birth to the baby boy and started raising him as his son.

Description of the Nandgaon Holi,Uttar Pradesh
Nandgaon is part of Braj Bhoomi, the region where Lord Krishna is said to have spent his childhood. On the day of Holi, the men of Nandgaon go to Barsana and dowse the female folk.

They try to take over the temple of Radhikaji. However the women of Barsana resist their attempt to do so.

On the next day, the men folk from Barsana come to Nandgaon. Nandgaon is at a distance of about 7 km from Barsana. They come in a grand procession carrying the flag of the Larily Lal Temple in Barsana.

Their objective is to win over the temple of Shriji in Nandgaon, whereas the men of Nandgaon try to take the flag from them. Now we can witness a mock battle between the men of Barsana and the women of Nandgaon.

This is one of those rare battles which you are sure to enjoy thoroughly. The women try to ward off the men using lathis and understandably so because their men were met with similar treatment from the women of Barsana just the previous day. The men in return drench them in colored water.

They use kesudo and palash to soak them. This is indeed a very enjoyable sight. The gleefulness of the girls while splashing the multitudinous colors is nice to see. It is a pure expression of joy and the men also thoroughly enjoy playing with them.

The village is situated in the lap of a hill. There are quite a few temples in the village among those the one dedicated to Nanda Rai is the best. This temple is very old and Raja Roop Singh took a substantial part of its construction.

This temple is situated on the top of the hillock. There are other minor temples too that are dedicated to minor deities such as Narsingha, Nritya Gopal and Yashoda Nandan. Close by is Pan Sarovar.

This is actually a tank that has masonry ghats along its sides. If we go by the legend, this lake served as the source of water for the men and cattle of the then Nandgaon.

Even Lord Krishna used to take his cow at the same ghats. A grove of Kadamb called Udhoji - Ka- Kyar is also close .
