Orrisa is prominently known for its temples, especially in the cities of Konark, Puri and Bhubaneswar. Bhubaneswar is the capital of Orissa, which is also called the Cathedral City for having thousands of magnificent historic temples. Puri is another renowned holy city, known as one of the four Dhams (pilgrimage places) of Hindus. The Jagannatha temple of Puri is located on the coast of the Bay of Bengal. Konark is eminent for its Sun Temple, visited by thousands of tourists every year. Chilka Lake, the largest coastal lake in India is also located here. It also has Chilka Lake Bird Sanctuary, which houses over 150 species of migratory and resident birds. The other places of tourist interest are the Hirakud Dam on the Mahanadi and the hydel power station at Machkund.
