The Tawang Monastery :
The Tawang Monastery also known as "Galden Namgyal Lhatse" was founded by Merak Lama Lodre Gyamtso in the year 1860-61 AD. The Tawang Monastery is situated on the start of a hill, about 10,000 ft above the sea level and has ravines in the south and west, narrow ridge on the north and a gradual slope on the east.
It offers an magnificent and picturesque view of the Tawang -Chu valley. The monastery appears like a fort from a distance, as if guarding the admirers in the wide valley below. How and When to Reach The Tawang Monastery
There is no airport or railhead in Tawang. Tezpur in Assam, is the nearest airport.
Road Transport - The only way out of the Tawang town leads back over the Sela Pass and down to Bomdila. Arunachal State Transport runs buses to Bomdila on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday (8hr). Private buses also run daily and frequently via Bomdila to Tezpur , departing round about noontime and arriving Tawang early in the morning of the following day. Jeeps also leave daily for Tezpur early in the morning from Tawang City Gate, 200m downhill from the bus stand. The best time-spell to visit the Tawang Monastery is between the months of October and April. Some functional and moderately luxurious accommodations are available at Tawang for the tourists.
Parashuram Kund :
Ancient Indian mythology narrates that Parashuram, a great sage of ancient India had washed his sins of matricide in the bank of the rive Lohit, which later became known as Parashuram Kund. People from far and wide come to take part in the Parashuram Mela held every year during the month of January.
Bhismaknagar :
Mythology says that Lord Krishna carried away Rukmini one of many wives from her father Bhismaka who ruled this kingdom. Excavations have revealed very ancient settlements of the Aryans in Bhismaknagar.
Malinithan :
Malinithan has a 7 to 8 centuries old temple in ruins. A series of excavations have unearthed a decorated basement of a temple, icon of deities, animal motifs and floral designs, carved columns and panels reminding of an unknown glorious past.
Akashiganga :
According to Hindu Mythology, when the Lord Shiva was frantically carrying the corpse of Parvati, his wife, Lord Vishnu cut her body into pieces with Sudharshan Chakra. One of the pieces fell in this area to render this place divine. The place also provides a spectacular bird's eye view of the Brahmaputra river glimmering far below.
